Vacation Science Program
Looking for a fun-filled, educational holiday activity? Then look no further. This 2- or 3-day hands-on learning experience, for students in Years 4 - 7, will accelerate your understanding, further arouse your curiosity, stimulate your imagination, foster your creative-thinking and problem-solving skills, strengthen your multiple intelligences, and motivate you towards further learning.

You will experience a number of practical demonstrations aimed at encouraging you to make predictions, to hypothesise, and to develop explanations and fostering a keen interest in phenomena around you. You will carry out many experiments and may hear science songs, be invited to write science poetry, complete a crossword to revise main ideas, do physical exercises to increase your energy and improve learning, and enter a quiz to win a prize. Similar successful programs have previously been conducted in Brisbane (Anglican Church Grammar School, Clayfield College, Ormiston College, & Robertson State School), Toowoomba, and Warwick.

Your program mentor is Dr Peter Eastwell PhD (Sc. Ed.), BSc (Hons, Phys. Chem.), DipEd, MACE, MRACI, C. Chem. He has over 26 years experience in science education, conducting science programs for students and workshops for teachers. He is a registered teacher and Science and Technology Communicator, author of Physics Spectrum: Constructing an Understanding of Physics, and an accredited Primary Investigations and Crest Awards trainer. Peter's students have long been successful in science competitions, including being National winners in both the 1996 and 1997 Earthworm Environmental Awards for scientific research. He is a recipient of a Service to Science Education Award and a BHP Science Teachers Award. With a deep passion for science education, he enjoys nothing more than sharing his fascination for the scientific principles which govern our world.

Science Time, one of Australia’s leading providers of science enrichment activities, strives to make learning fun, enjoyable, and safe. You will find your imagination challenged as your mentor acts as a guide and source of encouragement in an exciting hands-on atmosphere. Science Time has received accreditation from Education Queensland and the New South Wales Department of School Education, ensuring the highest standards in science education.

Dress is smart casual, and you need to bring morning tea, lunch, a notebook, and a biro or pencil. Covered footwear is essential. Each student will receive a Certificate of Participation.

    To register for a Vacation Science Program, please copy and complete the following Tax Invoice and forward it, with your cheque for the total amount enclosed, to us at the address given. Alternatively, you may register and pay by credit card by phoning 07 4667 3786.

    All programs are subject to minimum and maximum numbers of students. Places are allocated in order of receipt of registration.

    Registrations that can be accepted will be confirmed, most often by e-mail. In the event that a program is already filled or is cancelled, you will be informed prior to the scheduled date.

    Due to the time and expenditure involved in preparing for these programs, bookings need to be binding. However, they are transferable to another person. In the event that a registered person cannot attend, a "stand-by" participant might therefore fill the reserved place.
